The advantages of a solar battery

The questions we are most often asked are: Why Should I install a Solar Battery? And What are the Advantages of a Solar Battery?

Here are 5 great reasons to invest in a solar battery and the advantages of owning a solar battery.

Reduce or Eliminate Your Power bills and Avoid Nasty Bill Shock

A solar battery stores the excess power your solar panels generate, and you don’t consume, for use at later or at night. Every kilowatt hour (kWh) of power you buy from the power company will cost you around 30c. Every excess kWh of power that your solar panels generate and you do not consume, is exported back to the grid but the power company will only pay you between 5c and 10c per kWh – so you have to export 3 to 6kWh during the day to pay for every 1 kWh you use at night.

By storing this excess power in a battery and using it at night it means you are not buying that power from the power company, further reducing your power bills and insulating you against the bill shock of large, unexpected power bills.

Gain Energy Independence

Take back the power! A solar battery will increase your energy independence, reducing reliance on the power companies. Who loves dealing with the power companies?

The smart cloud-based apps that come with most solar battery storage systems allow you to monitor the battery in real time and help manage your power consumption and electricity usage patterns. As solar battery owners become aware of these factors. they alter their power usage patterns and behaviour to maximise usage of the free power generated by their solar system and manage their battery power storage and use.

Protect Against Blackouts or Power Grid Outages

Over the last few summers the demand for power has soared with Australia experiencing frequent summer heatwaves. The corresponding spikes in power demand places stress on the power grid, leading to electricity outages or blackouts.

Many solar battery storage systems can be configured to provide protection against power interruptions. This ability is not automatically available with all batteries and require specific options for the battery. Please discuss with your SolarBright consultant if you require blackout protection from your solar battery.

Lower Your Carbon Footprint Good for the Environment

By consuming the renewable energy that your solar panels have generated and stored in the battery, it lowers your carbon footprint and is good for the environment.

If an average NSW family consumes 10kWh per day of stored power from their Tesla Powerwall battery, this reduces their carbon footprint by over 4 tonnes per year.

Stand Out Amongst Your Friends and Family

Australian’s have a reputation of being early adopters of new technology, and the number of solar battery installations are growing rapidly even though they are coming off a low base.

There is no doubt that the Tesla Powerwall is the best-known solar battery and it is an impressive and cool piece of kit – future technology in the here and now.

The solar battery will be a great talking point and you will stand out amongst your friends your battery will probably be the first they have ever seen. You can explain to your friends and family how a solar battery works and whip out your mobile phone, fire up the app and demonstrate the solar battery monitoring and energy management stats in real time.
