Solar Panel Installation

Installing solar panels is one of the quickest and most effective ways to start generating your own clean energy. Usually taking between 1-2 days, it involves mounting panels on your roof and then connecting them to both your home’s electrical system and the grid. It’s a simple step that can lead to long-term savings and a more sustainable future.

Solar Panel Installation in 6 Steps

Solar panel installation is relatively straightforward and follows these steps:

  1. Site Assessment
  2. System Design
  3. Panel Mounting
  4. Electrical Wiring
  5. Grid Connection
  6. Testing and Activation

Here’s how SolarBright goes about installing a solar system:

Site Assessment

SolarBright will send a energy consultant out to assess your roof. The consultant will determine what sized system you need and will assess any potential issues that might be encountered at the site.

System Design

While onsite, the SolarBright consultant will design a system with your site and power needs in mind. SolarBright takes into consideration your power usage, site constraints, roof orientation and shading.

Panel Mounting

On install day, your solar panels are mounted on your roof. Often using a specialised mounting or bracket system, the panels are installed to take full advantage of your roof and daylight hours.

Electrical Wiring

A licensed electrical contractor will connect your solar panels, the inverter and your electrical panel to your home’s electrical system.

Grid Connection

The solar system is then connected to the electricity grid. This will allow you to export your excess solar power out to the grid, in return for credits from your electrical provider. It also allows you to pull from the grid should you need to.

Testing and Activation

Lastly, your system will be tested and inspected to ensure that it’s operating correctly. Once signed off your system is activated, officially making your house solar powered.

Things to consider when choosing a Solar Installer

A lot of thought goes into which solar panels you should choose for your system. Did you know it’s just as important that you carefully consider who you get to install those panels? You need someone who will show up for you before, during and after your solar panel installation.

When choosing a solar installer these are things that you should consider:

  1. Experience
  2. Industry Awards and Accreditations
  3. Online Reviews – quantity and quality reviews
  4. Site Checks
  5. Physical Office
  6. Local

Ensuring that your solar installer can meet each of those requirements is key to receiving a quality system and installation. While they may seem self-explanatory, here’s why each point matters when choosing a solar installer:

Experience

Does your preferred installer have adequate experience? Solar panel installation requires expert knowledge, so look for an installer with at least 15 years of experience.

Industry Awards and Accreditations

Does the installer have any industry awards or accreditations? It’s easy to look up your preferred solar installer’s accreditation status.

Online Reviews

It always pays to look at a company’s online reviews. When it comes to solar panel installation you want both quality and quantity; more reviews means more satisfied customers.

Site Checks

When shopping around, ask installers to come out and do a site check. If they aren’t willing to do a site check before the installation, they aren’t serious about solar panel installation. Find someone who will come out and assess both your site and your energy needs.

Physical Office

Does your installer have a physical office? While this may seem obvious, some installers operate out a van, making them difficult to pin down when you need them most. Find someone with an office and warehouse that you can visit.

Local

Are they local? You want someone who is near at hand if your system requires service or maintenance in the future. Using a large installer who operates from overseas may mean that you’ll have trouble getting them to return to your site when you need them.

Custom Solar Panel Installation

Not all solar systems fit neatly into the same box. Buildings and people have different energy needs, so sometimes a custom solar panel installation is required. Whatever your requirements, SolarBright can fit together a solar system and installation that meets your specific needs.
