-
What rebates are available for solar panels?
Solar panels in Australia are supported by a generous federal rebate scheme. This scheme is designed to runout in 20230 so the rebates do get reduced on 1st of January of each year. Most solar retailers including SolarBright will apply this rebate as an instant discount at the point of sale, with no paperwork and no waiting required.
-
How much is the rebates for solar panels?
The Amount of the rebates for your solar panels will depend on the size of your solar system. On average, every 1kW of solar panels will you around $330+ in rebates. A typical 6.6kW system could get about $2,200 in rebates based on 2025 installation. This amount will be reduced each year till 2030.
-
How are solar panels rebates calculated?
The rebates come from something called STCs, that stands for Small-scale Technology Certificates. you earn a certain number of these certificates based on your system size.
For example, a 6.6kW system usually generates around 54 STCs (if installed in 2025).
-
What is STC?
STC is an acronym for Small-Scale Technology Certificates. It is part of the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme, which began in 2011 and is managed by the Clean Energy Regulator.
STCs are created when a solar panel system is installed, connected to the grid, and starts generating energy. As of July 2025, the Federal Government extended STCs to cover the installation of solar batteries too, meaning Australian households can earn two sets of STCs when they install a new solar system and new battery storage.
The STC rebate is gradually being phased out and will end in 2030, so the number of eligible certificates that can be earned is reduced every year. The rate of STCs is subject to market fluctuation; however, the STC rate is capped at $40 if sold through the clearing house.
-
Can I get rebates for both solar panels and a battery?
Yes, especially if you’re in NSW. There are federal rebates for solar, and from July 2025, federal rebates for batteries as well. Plus, there’s a NSW state rebate for battery systems.
