Limitations – Three-Phase Installations

Although the Tesla Powerwall 3 is a robust and adaptable solution for most Australian homes, it has certain constraints in three-phase properties:

  • Single-Phase Backup Only: The Powerwall 3 is designed mainly for single-phase homes and can only support backup power for just one phase in a three-phase home. In the event of a power outage, only the appliances and circuits connected to the supported phase will remain powered. For example, if your air conditioner, EV charger, or other high-energy appliances are on a different phase, they will not work in a power outage unless they are rewired to the backed-up phase.

  • Restricted Power Distribution: In three-phase homes, the Powerwall 3’s 11.04 kW output is limited to the single phase it’s connected to. Homes with evenly distributed loads across all three-phase loads such as machinery, HVAC systems or electric vehicles may require extra Powerwall units or alternative systems to achieve whole-home backup. This will significantly increase costs.

Our aim is to be transparent and work closely with you to assess your home’s electrical setup during our free consultation. Our team can recommend customised solutions to address these challenges so you get the most out of your Powerwall.

Is the Tesla Powerwall 3 Right for You?

Deciding on a Tesla Powerwall 3 comes down to your home’s energy needs, budget, and long-term goals. This cutting-edge system offers unmatched performance smoothly pairing with your solar panels and allowing room to grow with expandable storage options. That said, it’s worth taking a close look at your electrical setup to ensure it’s the perfect fit, especially for homes with unique configurations like three-phase systems.

Solar Energy System – An Introduction

The sun is an endless source of energy that not only works as a light source for Earth but also provides an abundant and replenishable source of renewable energy. Australia has the added advantage of having abundant sunlight throughout the year.

Solar panels are used in a solar system to convert energy from sunlight into electricity through a process known as photovoltaics. The electricity generated by solar panels is a form of direct current (DC), which is further converted by solar inverters into alternating current (AC) to run your electrical appliances.

Designing the Best Solar System

When designing your ideal solar system, consider these important questions:

  1. What capacity of solar system is right for you?
  2. Will you need to expand your solar system in the future?
  3. Will you need to invest in battery storage?
  4. Are you considering solar payment plans?

What capacity of solar system is right for you?

One of the reasons I ask a customer for a copy of their power bill is that I want to see how much electricity they are using. Every home has different energy needs, and it is important we size a system to your needs.

Will you need to expand your solar system in the future?

When designing a system for a customer, my goal is to build a system that incorporates their future needs. In Australia, you can claim government rebates for full systems or adding panels to an existing inverter.

You can also claim rebates multiple times for one property for solar panels (unlike solar batteries which can only be claimed once). If you do find your circumstances change, we can install another system to increase your capacity.

Will you need to invest in battery storage?

The technical answer to this question is No. A solar system will work and save you money without a battery. However, with the current rebates from both the State and Federal Governments, there has never been a better time to invest in a battery.

These new rebates have seen the out-of-pocket cost of a battery almost halved overnight. Other factors to consider when purchasing a battery are:

  • Power costs continue to rise.
  • Feed-in tariffs continue to drop.
  • Legislation has already been passed to allow energy companies to charge you for feed-in.
  • Compliance and safety standards for batteries have never been stronger.

Are you considering solar payment plans?

At SolarBright, we realise that not everyone can afford to invest in a system with cash. We work with multiple companies that offer Green Loans to finance a system. When done right, the payment for your system and your lower power bill will be less than your old power bill, saving you money from the first day.

What makes a solar deal the best value?

Installing a solar system is one of the upgrades you can do to your home that saves you money. When investing in a solar system, you are making a long-term investment for your property.

Best value is a combination of quality of work and price. A system is only worth the money if it stands the test of time.

At SolarBright, we want you to enjoy the savings on your power bill for many years after installing a system.

Quality of Solar Systems

There are two factors that determine the quality of a solar system:

  1. Quality of the physical components. At SolarBright, we only install products that we trust. We want you to not have to worry about your system. Just have it installed and enjoy the savings.
  2. Quality of the installation. At SolarBright, we have been installing solar and battery systems since 2008. A lot of our work comes from happy customers who recommend us to their friends and family. We are a family-owned company, and we instil these family values into every system we install.

Batteries

With the new government rebates on solar batteries, prices for quality batteries have never been cheaper for homeowners in NSW. With the newer lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry now being seen in all good-quality batteries, they have also never been safer.

With SolarBright’s dedication to quality and reliability, we only sell LFP batteries. LFP batteries are safer than other battery chemistries because they are less susceptible to catching fire, are more stable at higher temperatures, and don’t contain as many toxic chemicals.

With multiple brands to choose from, we have a battery that will suit your needs. We can also retrofit a solar battery to your current system. We carry a range of AC-coupled batteries that will work with any solar system.

How Much Can You Save with a Solar System?

A solar and battery system can greatly reduce your electricity costs, reducing your dependence on the grid and the power companies.

While you will still have a power bill, you can greatly reduce it, and by using your own electricity, you will lower your exposure to changing electricity prices.

Good Quality Solar Installation Matters

Choosing the best solar deal, which include premium solar panels and solar batteries for your home, is of utmost importance. Besides the quality of components purchased, the long-term success of your solar investment also depends on the quality of the installation. Kitchen Skylights

For many families the kitchen is a central part of their home. For my family it is the central point of the house where we sit, talk and socialize together. I take many calls from customers looking to make their kitchen brighter.

I regularly see kitchens where there is something cutting off light from the windows. This could be a fence, pergola or alfresco area that adjoins the kitchen. With many homes designed around the kitchen as a central area, brightening up this space can make your home feel larger and more welcoming.

Factors to consider when choosing a skylight for your Kitchen

The size if the Kitchen

When considering which skylight to recommend a customer I first look at the size of the kitchen. Does the home have an open plan living area and kitchen? How large is the kitchen? Our MaxLight 250mm can cover 18m2 or the larger 400mm unit can cover 25m2.

For a small kitchen a 250mm unit will provide more than enough light. For a Larger Kitchen a 400mm unit will provide better coverage. Or for an open plan area 2 skylights may be needed.

Placement

One of the things I discuss with a customer is where do they work in a kitchen, by placing a skylight above or near the work area we can maximize the light where it is needed. Knowing that a MaxLight can spread light over a large area it can be used it illuminate the walls as well as the area underneath it. Unlike traditional skylight which only send light down a well, creating a spotlight effect.

Ceiling Access

We also need to look at the ceiling and roof cavity. Is the area where the skylight is going to go have clear space above it to the roof for the tube to run? As skylight installers we must find space in your roofs cavity we cannot move anything.

Technology

MaxLight Skylights have a lot of features in them that make them an excellent chose over a traditional skylight

  • Enhanced Light capture and Distribution
  • Energy Efficiency and Temperature control
  • Minimal Maintenance
  • Durable Product
  • Less Complex Installation
  • Does not let in UV

If you would like to learn more about these benefits read our Blog An Excellent Alternative to Traditional Skylights.

Things to consider when choosing a skylight for your kitchen

Here are some things to consider when choosing a kitchen skylight

  1. Choose a skylight installer with a good reputation, SolarBright have been in business since 2008 and our install partner network in Australia and New Zealand work to the highest standards.
  2. Choose a Skylight with the best warranty, MaxLight skylights come with a 20 year warranty. Giving peace of mind for many years to come.

Solar Batteries for Home

With electricity prices continuing to rise across Australia, many homeowners are turning to renewable energy options like solar power or batteries to lower their bills and reduce reliance on the grid. At SolarBright we’ve helped thousands of homes and businesses in NSW make the switch to renewable energy to reduce the pain of cost-of-living pressures.

In this guide, we’ll dive into why solar batteries are becoming more popular, how they can save you money and what to keep in mind when choosing a battery. We’ll also show you how our team at SolarBright simplifies the process, making your switch to renewables easy and stress-free.

Why Solar Batteries Are Becoming Popular

Solar batteries are changing the way Australians use solar energy. With more than 4 million households across the country already using rooftop solar, adding batteries is becoming the natural next step. Feed-in tariffs have dropped significantly (now as low as 3–7 cents per kWh in NSW), making it less profitable to send surplus solar power back to the grid.

At the same time, peak electricity rates have soared, sometimes exceeding 40–50 cents per kWh. A solar battery captures surplus energy during the day so you can use it at night, reducing the need to purchase expensive grid power. Plus, with improved affordability, installing a solar battery is more accessible than ever.

When Should You Consider Solar Batteries

If your household consumes a lot of electricity at night, a solar battery can be a great investment. Without a battery, any extra solar power produced during the day is either sent to the grid for minimal compensation or wasted. A battery ensures you store this energy for evening use and maximise your solar investment. Also, if you live in an area that experiences a lot of outages, solar batteries can keep your property running.

Achieving Energy Independence

Adding a solar battery can be a real game-changer when it comes to slashing your electricity bills and taking control of your energy use. The battery works by storing excess solar energy during the day so you can power your home at night without having to draw from the grid.

For example, a 6.6kW solar system in NSW produces roughly 25kWh of energy per day based on Clean Energy Council estimates. If you use 15kWh during the day, a 10kWh battery will store the remaining energy for you to use in the evening.

This setup would drastically reduce your reliance on the grid, saving you hundreds of dollars each year. These savings add up over time, shortening your payback time and making solar battery installation a smart financial investment. We’ve seen some of our customers slash their bills by around 80–100%.

Solar Battery Payback Time

When weighing the cost of a solar battery, the payback period for solar battery is an important factor. Lately, it has been shrinking due to rising electricity prices and new incentives.

Take one of our popular setups at SolarBright: a 6.6kW solar system paired with a 10.8kWh SolaX battery, priced at $10,588. Based on our calculations, this system could pay for itself in just under 4 years. Curious for a deeper dive into the numbers? Check out our blog on Solar Battery Pricing and Payback Time for a full breakdown.

Things to Consider When Choosing Solar Batteries

It’s important to consider a few key factors when selecting a solar battery for your home or business. Here are some things to look out for:

  • Installer – The Most Important Factor: A reputable solar battery installer is essential for a safe and reliable solar battery setup. A poor installation can most likely void warranties or reduce battery performance. It’s best to go with an installer with a proven track record you can trust. Look to see if they have many positive reviews over a range of platforms, recognised service across the industry, and operate out of their fully-owned facility.
  • Capacity: The capacity of the battery is measured in kWh and tells you how much it can store. For most homes a 10kWh battery is usually enough. However, if your energy needs are expected to grow—say by adding an electric vehicle (EV) or expanding your household—then modular systems like Sungrow and SolaX offer you flexibility to easily add more capacity later.
  • Warranty: Look for a battery with a solid warranty of at least 10 years or 6,000 cycles. Also, check the degradation rate as most brands guarantee 70% capacity after 10 years. A solid warranty gives you confidence that your investment will last.
  • Battery Chemistry: Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are a top choice for a reason. They are safe, durable, and have a long lifespan.
  • Efficiency: Round-trip efficiency measures how much energy is kept during charging and discharging. Look for 90% or higher to maximise savings.
  • Blackout Protection: If power outages are common in your area, choose batteries with backup features which seamlessly keep your appliances running during grid failures.
  • Virtual Power Plants (VPPs): VPPs let you sell stored energy to the grid, boosting your savings. Just keep in mind that frequent cycling may reduce battery lifespan, so it’s important to weigh the pros and cons.

Check Your Eligibility for the Federal Battery Rebate

The Federal Government’s Battery for Cheaper Homes program, launching 1st July 2025, offers rebates of up to $372 per kWh—which could equate to savings of $3,720 on a 10kWh battery. This initiative is aimed at helping Australian households cut electricity costs and improve energy independence. Eligible batteries must:

  • Be installed at owner-occupied homes
  • Include internet-connected battery management systems for monitoring and grid integration
  • Retain at least 70% usable capacity after 10 years
  • Be installed by providers registered under the Federal rebate scheme

Only approved installers, like SolarBright, can offer this rebate as an upfront discount at the point of sale. The SolarBright team is here to guide you through the process and ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.
